      Adrenal Fatigue
The Adrenals Sit atop Your Kidneys

      What Are the Adrenal Glands?

The adrenal glands are two small glands that sit atop your kidneys. They are vital for life. In fact, you cannot live without them. The adrenals produce:

      • Androgens (sex hormones);
      • Fight or flight hormones; and,
      • Cortisol, a major stress hormone.

When you are stressed, your adrenals rush to your rescue.

They help control your blood pressure, immune system and the ability to produce an immediate burst of energy in case we need to fight or flee a bad situation.

It’s that burst of Adrenalin from your adrenal glands that can give a mom the superhuman strength to lift a car off her child.

      What Is Adrenal Fatigue?

The Adrenal Glands were created to be used occasionally. Modern life has many of us calling on our Adrenal Glands constantly. This can wear down he Adrenals and lead to Adrenal Fatigue.

Conventional medicine recognizes that severe over or underproduction of our stress hormone cortisol, can lead to very serious adrenal issues.

These conditions include Cushing’s disease (super high levels of cortisol) or Addison’s disease (super low levels).

Between these two extremes, Cushing’s and Addisons diseases, conventional medicine does not recognize Adrenal Fatigue.

The sudden onset of massive stress from the loss of a loved one, or a lost job or even a home lost to foreclosure can lead to Adrenal Fatigue.

Even continuous levels of low stress from:

      • daily dealings with our houses and spouses,
      • traffic and work,
      • bills and finances or
      • chronic infections

can all lead to Adrenal Fatigue.

Over exercising as we age, a poor diet or sleep habits, feelings of hopelessness can also lead to Adrenal Fatigue.

Even the stress of early maternity can increase your odds of Adrenal Fatigue.

What Are the Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue?

The most obvious symptom is fatigue. You may appear normal to others, but when suffering from Adrenal Fatigue, there is often a general malaise and constant “blah” feeling. Your energy fades. You may wake up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.

In the morning you feel tired and un-refreshed. There is often a constant need to keep fueling yourself all day long with coffee, colas, and energy drinks.

By early afternoon, you may begin to fade again. You may feel the need to nap in the middle of the day when you never needed a nap before. In the evening you may experience a burst of alertness and energy. These cycles will wear you down.

You may crave sweet and salty foods like potato chips.

Your body struggles to compensate for fading energy levels.
The struggle takes a serious toll and over time can make your life miserable.

Increasing levels of Adrenal Fatigue can impact your:

      • metabolism,
      • fluid and electrolyte balances,
      • your heart and cardiovascular system and
      • your all-important immune system.

Many will experience the onset of a serious unexplained weight gain around the middle abdomen.

How Do I Know If I Have Adrenal Fatigue?

Properly diagnosing Adrenal Fatigue is best achieved with a well-trained integrative metabolic medical doctor.
Completing a thorough review of up to 75 symptoms plus a 24-hour saliva test can confirm the diagnosis of Adrenal Fatigue. Blood work may also be ordered.
When a person has Adrenal Fatigue, the Thyroid Gland is also likely involved. Imbalanced Cortisol levels can interfere with your Thyroid hormones. Diagnosing Adrenal Fatigue also includes thoroughly checking your Thyroid Gland.
Those with Adrenal Fatigue often also have imbalances with their sex hormones which be found in the saliva testing.
It is estimated that millions of American suffer from Adrenal Fatigue.

What Can I Do About Adrenal Fatigue?

The use of safe and highly effective botanicals known as Adaptogens, intravenous vitamin C, diet, sleep and stress reduction all contribute to successfully treating Adrenal Fatigue. It is important to understand that it takes months or even years to deplete your adrenal glands. Restoring them back to health cannot be done overnight. Steady progress towards restoring adrenal strength takes some time and diligence.
Restoring your adrenal glands will help you reclaim your vital health and energy.
