Have you ever heard the announcer of an NFL football game say, “He’s lost a step!”
It usually means a professional running back or tight end is getting just a little bit slower than he was in his previous years. As he moves from his early 20s and into his early 30s, he begins to lose some of that lightning speed. That might be attributable to losing some of his powerful testosterone production.
Testosterone is the male sex hormone that makes us men masculine. It gives us our deeper voices, greater muscle mass, facial hair and sex drive. Testosterone production in a man’s body can begin to slow as early as our mid-twenties at a rate of 1—2% per year. Annually that may not seem like much, but over time it takes a toll on us men.
By age 50, many men may have already lost 25 to 50% of this vital hormone. And by age 60, many men with low testosterone have more estrogen (the female sex hormone) than women of the same age!

Andropause is the result of the loss of testosterone production in men. Because it is a slower process, andropause is given far less attention than menopause in women.
Symptoms of andropause include weight gain, loss of muscle mass, loss of libido, our sex drive, brain fog and fatigue.
Andropause can be slowed, stopped and even reversed to a great degree. This requires some experience and understanding in how to safely prescribe and monitor Testosterone.
Testosterone is not only a powerful male sex hormone that makes us men masculine it also gives men (and women…yes, guys, women require small amounts of testosterone to be healthy, too) a sense of zest and excitement for life. It helps make us want to get out of bed and get moving in the morning.
For men, low testosterone can lead to greater odds for Alzheimer’s disease. Research also shows that men with low testosterone levels can expect to have more fat around the belly where men can produce Estrogen, the Female Hormone!
Men can also experience hot flashes, more prevalence of diabetes and heart attacks and even earlier death rates. Not a lot of good news there.
The good news is that when “partnering” with a well-trained, highly experienced, integrative medical doctor, a lot of the underlying issues associated with andropause can be minimized and even reversed. When properly prescribed and carefully monitored, Testosterone replacement Therapy (TRT) can achieve optimal testosterone levels. When this happens alongside rebalancing your vital adrenal and thyroid glands, the results can make a man feel 10, 15 even 20 years younger when the program takes full effect.
Wherever you choose to go for your “T” make sure your provider monitors you with lab tests and symptom checks at least every 3-6 months initially. Too much “T” may feel good for a while, but too much testosterone can be converted into ESTROGEN: the Female Hormone! Not a very good idea. Too much “T” can also alter your blood and lead to heart attacks. Another bad idea.
Be smart. For your best result plus your safety, choose your medical provider wisely. You and those you love will be glad you did.
